Taste of Home
This past Saturday night, I had the honor and the privilege to share my sweet Southern roots with my host family in California. I knew we had to have Mama’s fried chicken and cornbread. And upon accepting requests, we decided to include collard greens and mashed potatoes. Deep down I also knew this meal wouldn’t be complete without banana pudding—so I called in the big guns. Aunt Wanda. Her recipe is known throughout the family as hands down THE BEST banana pudding anywhere. There are no shortcuts and no boxes involved. It’s truly a labor of love to stand over that pudding (for an hour!) to reach that perfect consistency. That’s what it took, folks. But the result was more worth it than I could have imagined. There were around 25 people total and it couldn’t have more of a success! Other contributions were sweet tea, coleslaw and a zucchini casserole lovingly made by other members of the family.
