I should be studying for my other test today, but this is too good not to share. Last night, sweet Margaret and I had a little prayer session and the verse laid on our hearts was Psalm 16:5. Since then, I’ve been meditating on that verse, resting in it and TRUSTING that my portion is perfect and my inheritance is beautiful. Waking up to this post by Mary Catherine was nothing short of the...

ordinary days
“The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things” -Henry Ward Beecher For me, these common things are simply moments. Moments when I tune into my surroundings and find the extraordinary in the ordinary.  Hearing the birds chirp on an unseasonably warm Winter day (like today).  A phone call from an old friend.  The smell of freshly baked...

christmas spirit
This morning I started the day with dear Whitney and I think I finally eased into the Christmas spirit. Pretty pitiful considering it’s only 2 days until Christmas Day, but with finals followed by a Caribbean cruise (not complaining), it didn’t seem much like the holidays.  This morning it was so refreshing to remember these last 3.5 years (seriously, where has the time gone?!) over...

happy thanksgiving
I actually wrote this post yesterday morning, but waited to post it. I hope you enjoy and really remember we all have so much to be thankful for during this season and all year round. With my coffee by my side, a hot cinnamon roll just eaten and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade playing in front of me, I decided to complete this fun little Thanksgiving questionnaire from Ashley over...

monday thoughts.
I’ve got a quiz and a test tomorrow that are begging to be studied for, but first I wanted to pop in with a little Monday encouragement to get you through this week.  Yesterday I wasn’t feeling well, so I decided to livestream Free Chapel from home. It was exactly what I needed to hear. Jentezen spoke about what it means to WALK DAILY as we are called to. Here are my notes.  1. Walk...

inspiratherapy: “One reason we are so harried and hurried is that we make yesterday and tomorrow our business, when all that legitimately concerns us is today. If we really have too much to do, there are some items on the agenda which God did not put there. Let us submit the list to Him and ask Him to indicate which items we must delete. There is always time to do the will of God. If we...

and mama came to spend the day...
Yesterday was absolutely perfect in my book. Mom came over yesterday morning to spend the day with me. We started our morning at the car shop—emissions were in order. Oncewe got that out of the way, we ventured to a yummy lunch at Panera before attacking Trader Joe’s and Kroger. It’s always more fun to grocery shop with Mama. With so many years of cooking behind her, she always...

start of a new week and a new month
Last night around 11, my phone rang and Dad’s voice tickled my ears.  “Hey darling, I’m heading to Charleston in the morning and I’m thinking we should have breakfast on my way out of town.”  The thought of an early morning with my dad evoked memories of days gone by filled with 6 a.m. Cracker Barrel breakfasts. Biscuits and gravy and bacon. Extra-crispy, please....

2 Corinthians 6 1:13
Sometimes I find myself too busy to listen. But Paul says it in Corinthians, “Now is the right time to listen.” This afternoon was that time for me. Time to stop working. To stop thinking. And to listen. This is what I heard.  “Companions, as we are in this work with you, we beg you, please don’t squander one bit of this marvelous life God has given us. God reminds us,  ...

Did anyone else feel Fall in the air today? She so generously gifted us with her whispering, chilly presence. Now I’ve got the itch for the cooler weather, changing leaves and holidays. I’m ready to enjoy my lattes “extra hot” to warm my hands on my walk to class. I wish it was cooler for good, but the great thing about seasons, at least here in Georgia, is that even...

Excuse me
For my absence. I am back in Athens (and have been since Tuesday), but have been without cable or internet since then. I just got it back and though I missed it, it was nice to spend my days without the extra noise. I was able to get in some good devotions, read over 100 pages of my new book and make time for multiple lunch and coffee dates with friends I have dearly missed over this summer! But...

I think the secret to a good day everyday is remembering to be thankful constantly. Reminding yourself of the blessings that surround you and the opportunities that await. Here’s to a happy Friday and a great weekend :)

Taste of Home
This past Saturday night, I had the honor and the privilege to share my sweet Southern roots with my host family in California. I knew we had to have Mama’s fried chicken and cornbread. And upon accepting requests, we decided to include collard greens and mashed potatoes. Deep down I also knew this meal wouldn’t be complete without banana pudding—so I called in the big guns. Aunt...
