ordinary days

“The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things”
-Henry Ward Beecher
For me, these common things are simply moments. Moments when I tune into my surroundings and find the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Hearing the birds chirp on an unseasonably warm Winter day (like today).
A phone call from an old friend.
The smell of freshly baked banana bread rising in the oven.
Coffee with whipped cream.
A care package (complete with homemade lasagna) from Mama.
An email from my brother.
A cold fountain Coca Cola.
These are just a few of the things I choose to delight in. What are some common things that bring joy to your otherwise ordinary days?

“We are torn between nostalgia for the familiar and an urge for the foreign and strange. As often as not, we are homesick most for the places we have never known.”
